Until now there is only one known instrument that can diagnose and test the reversible alternators of the Valeo ST35 series: the VC-09ST benchtop tester, produced by MOTOPLAT.
The VC-09ST calibrates the electronic signals to the control box in connection with the ECU for a reliable and fast start. The VC-09ST tests all functions of the alternator, such as the parameters.
Depending on the rotor position, the phase change control system requires that after such an alternator has been repaired, the Hall sensors must be positioned correctly. Otherwise, the generator will not have enough power to turn the crankshaft.
On the screen of the tester, you can check whether their position is correct or not. An oscilloscope graph will appear on the screen of the signal received from the Hall sensor (the rectangular wave) and that of the phases. The correctness of the Hall sensor's position is displayed based on points where both waves intersect.
If we are dealing with a reversible alternator, it will be 100% efficient as a dynamo. For example an AC generator and at the same time Hall sensors are positioned correctly, it will be 100% efficient as an AC motor, for example a starter in this case.
